Day of Potato Chips

Crispy potato chips  have become a real cult not only among young people but among the older generation, too. Manufacturers are constantly experimenting with a variety of flavors, even allowing gourmets to enjoy precisely the nuances of flavor that they prefer to all others.
And today on August 24 potato chips celebrate their birthday. So where did they come from?
On August 24, 1853, George Cram - a chef at Hotel Moon's Lake Lodge in the town of Saratoga Springs (NY) for the first time prepared potato chips.
One of the visitors complained about  too thick fried potatoes. And then Cram served the  potato slices the thickness of the paper, sprinkled with salt and fried  to a crisp in boiling oil.
To the chef's great surprise the  client was delighted with the new dish. Soon  Saratoga Chips have gained popularity. In 1860, Cram opened his own restaurant, where there always were baskets of potato chips on  the tables.
Today it is the most popular American food  has become almost international, although the debates about its benefits and dangers do not stop until now.
And what about you? Do you like chips? If yes, let's go to the kitchen and cook delicious homemade potato chips ( the video was taken from TheCooknShare youtube channel)

Happy Independence Day, Ukraine!

Even Google has become blue and yellow today
Because today Ukraine is celebrating its 25th anniversary of the declaration of independence.
So, happy Independence Day, Ukraine!
I want to share with you the beauty of my native country ( the video is taken from FilmCenter STUDIO youtube channel)

The Day of Kharkiv.

Kharkiv is a regional center, the second largest city in Ukraine and one of the largest cities in the world.
It is located in the north - eastern part of the country on the elevated plateau of the rivers Kharkiv and Lopan.
By the number of historic sights Kharkov is the second after Kiev in  Ukraine and is a member of the League of Historical Cities.
According to some sources, the name of the city came from the river Kharkiv, on the other side - from the legendary Cossack Kharko.
The main attraction of Kharkiv is the Square of Liberty.

One of the symbols of the city is the Mirror stream in the park of the Victory.

In Kharkov, as well as in other old cities of Ukraine, there are many cathedrals and churches that affect its greatness and beauty. The pride of the city are Yuri Gagarin Planetarium. , a large zoo, ropeway through the botanical garden and  Gorky park,  children's railway.

And this beautiful city is celebrating its anniversary on August 23. Kharkiv is 363 years old.
This city is dear to me because of my alma mater, the V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National  University, which I graduated from in 2008. And this year my brother has become the student of it, too.

The International Day of Friendship

"Friendship is the hardest thing in the world to explain. It's not something you learn in school. But if you haven't learned the meaning of friendship, you really haven't learned anything."
                                                                                                      Muhammad Ali
On July 30 the whole world celebrates the International Day of Friendship. This holiday is rather young. The General Assembley of the UNO proclaimed  this holiday  international to strengthen friendly relations between different nations. "The friendship between peoples, countries, cultures and individuals can inspire the efforts to ensure peace and makes it possible to build bridges between societies that honor cultural diversity", - the document says.
Every nation has always appreciated friendship and considered it as one of the greatest values in life.

I have collected the Ukrainian and Russian equivalents(because these are my two native languages) to well-known English proverbs about friendship and represented them in this table:
English
Meaning
Ukrainian
Russian
False friends are worse than open enemies.
It's better to know who your real enemies are rather than trust someone who pretends to be a friend but is capable of stabbing you in the back.

A friend in need is a friend indeed./
At need one sees who his friend is.
Someone who helps you when you are in trouble is a real friend.
A friend to all is a friend to none.
Someone who is a friend to everyone makes none of them feel special.
All are not friends that speak us fair.
Only real friends will discuss and not be always agree with you
A friend in the court is better than a penny in the purse
It’s good to have people who will support you
It's good to have some friends both in heaven and hell
It’s good to know useful people
A man is known by the company he keeps.
You can say what person is when you meet with his/her friends
Prosperity makes friends, adversity tries them.
When you get in trouble, people who stay with you and support you are your real friends
Old tunes are sweetest, old friends are surest./
Old friends and old wine are best./

Make new friends but keep the old, for one is silver and the other is gold.
It’s good to make new friends, but only your old friends are the best, because you know them better and longer

Friendship and importunate begging feed at the same dish
Even the most solid friendship cannot withstand the test of money
Friendship is not to be bought at a fair.
A real friendship cannot be bought at any price
A friend’s frown is better than а foe’s smile.
Only a real  friend can emphasize on your mistakes
A broken friendship may be soldered, but will never be sound.
If you quarrel with your friend, you can’t be close anymore. There will be a coolness in your relations
Books and friends should be few but good.
You choose what to read, so you choose your friends.
Before you make a friend eat a bushel of salt with him./
Sudden friendship, sure repentance.
You should get to know better  someone before to call him/her your friend
As we can see friendship takes a very important place in our lives and is international. And don't forget!
Happy International Day of Friendship!

Happy Birthday dear Harry!

We all remember this amazing boy who became a face of a well-known hero of stories about Harry Potter.
As for me I imagined exactly this face when I read the wonderful stories about Harry Potter.

His talented acting game made us sympathize with the hero and be a part of all his adventures.
I can't imagine the best Harry Potter!

And on July 23 Daniel Radcliffe celebrated his birthday!:)
So wish you more good roles and new achievements, dear Daniel!
And I want to share with you another Daniel's talent that makes him more special - he sings rap .
I think this rap can help to develop good pronunciation.

If you want to be happy, be!;)

Hello my dear friends,
I'm not going to teach you today. My post is devoted to happiness. Yeah, this simple word has a different meaning for every person in the world.
Korean artist Ji-Hyuk Kim has depicted the moments of happiness in his warm and bright illustrations: an ordinary trip, meeting with relatives, daily cares, an interesting trip - all those simple things that make us happy.
Be happy, when a new adventure is waiting for you
Be happy, when you spend a day with your favourite book

Be happy, when you move to a new flat
Be happy, when you do what you like
Be happy, when you are wandering around your favourite places
Be happy, when you spend your time with your dearest and nearest
Be happy, when you are alone
Be happy, with that person who loves you
Be happy every single day!;)
(And here is my favourite one, because it describes my character. And what picture describes you?)
Wish you happiness in every moment of your life.

Goodbye, Englishland!

On June 16, 2016 our language summer camp "Englishland" said goodbye to its campers and closed its doors till the next summer.
On that day we exchanged our impressions and feelings. My campers presented me with flowers and wrote their kind wishes for me and our camp. I was very happy to find out that my campers really enjoyed staying in our language summer camp, they were good participants in all camp activities and showed good knowledge of English. All of the campers were presented with special souvenirs and certificates.
We all made paper planes and flew them into the air with our wishes with the hope they would come true the following summer.
After that we watched our video album and recollected our best camp memories.
Our camp was a little piece of life for all of us, because we became real friends during those three weeks.
So, goodbye, Englishland! Let's meet next summer!;)
