Do you like reading? As for me I adore reading. With the help of books you can travel around real and imagined worlds, get unbelieveble experience and feel the deepest emotions.
Today is the World Book Day that's why I want to talk with you about books and reading.
Reading is always a great fun, and the more languages you can read in, the more horizons are opening in front of you. I think that you can really feel and understand the language only by reading fiction. That's why I advise my pupils to read more English books in original. And you shouldn't be afraid of unknown words and phrases.
So here are some useful tips for reading English books. They are not new but I hope they will help you.
- Always take books written by native speakers.
- Read books that are interesting for you ( reading must be pleasure for you).
- Choose the genre, depending on your goals, age and level of your English.
- While reading don't use the dictionary all the time. Or it will definitely spoil the pleasure of reading for you.Try to guess the meaning of unknown words with the help of the context.
- Underline the unknown words and after reading the book find out their meanings and learn them. It will help you to enlarge your vocabulary.
- Read aloud. It will help you to improve your pronunciation.
And here is the list of books which I advise you to read:
A love story of a popular theater actress and a young man - the same age as her son.
A terrifying, but enlightening tale about Dorian Gray and his unusual portrait.
An unforgettable story of an American ambulance driver on the Italian front and his passion for a beautiful English nurse.
A cheerful book about the journey of three gentlemen and Montmorency fox terrier across the Thames. The book is full of English humour.
If you are a detective in your soul this book about interesting and tricky investigations is definitely for you.
All these books as you understand are a classical literature.
And this list is for those who loke modern fiction:
Have you ever felt like an ugly duckling? A high school senior instigates a social pecking order revolution after finding out that she has been labeled the DUFF - Designated Ugly Fat Friend. This is the best story for teenagers.
It is a fantasy love story of a girl and a vampire.
It is the first book in a young-adult post-apocalyptic dystopian
science fiction trilogy about teenagers who are destined to survive in a strange and terrible maze.
It's a novel about a girl who
knows all the right people, goes to all the right parties, and wears all the right clothes. But deep down she suspects that her best friends are actually rather nasty, and that her lifestyle doesn’t really amount to much.
This is a fantasy novel about a boy-wizard and his amazing advantures.
It's a fantasy novel of a girl who met a strange boy, Howl by name. He is an owner of a moving house.
