English is Great: Reading

There are holidays now but as John Lennon said "Time you enjoy wasting, was not wasted". And I can't but agree with him. So today let's devote our time to reading. It's quite obvious that reading is a very important part for learning English.  Reading comprehension tests can help you to improve vocabulary, grammar, and logical thought ability. I've decided to talk about reading because in November we're going to have the second tour of our English contest. So why not prepare for this event?
You can learn to apply a range of techniques in order to extract from texts the information you need:
1. Skimming - reading quickly in order to find out what the text is about. Skimming can also take in features such as headings, subheadings and illustrations to obtain an overview of the subject matter.

2. Scanning - to locate specific information, making use of key words.

3. Detailed reading - reading carefully to aid understanding. When reading for information, detailed reading usually follows scanning. Some texts, such as instructions, need to be read in detail throughout.
Think about the following questions as you read:

• What is it for?
• Where is it coming from?
• Who is it aimed at?
• What can I infer that isn't explicitly stated?
• Do I believe it? 
Here are some tips for improving your reading skills:

- Practice reading every day. You should read different fields to improve your vocabulary.

- Take note all new words and learn them.

PT minute for high school students at the English lesson/Фізкультхвилинка для старшокласників на уроці англійської мови.

Short physical exercises have to be the main part of the English lesson for young learners. They help not only to improve pupils' language skills but they are also a great fun for children. I have told you before how my young learners do PT minutes at my lessons( for more information watch my blog in February 2014: English for young learners:PT minutes).
But what about high school students? They like fun, too. But they have no interest in doing exercises with the help of rhymes. So I offered my pupils to have fun with twister game.Twister is a game of physical skill produced by Milton Bradley Company. It is played on a large plastic mat that is spread on the floor or ground. 

My pupils have a great fun while playing this lovely game;)

Our school life: English contest 2014 ( the first tour).

On October 17 2014 the first tour of the English contest took place in our school. The pupils of the 8, 9, 10, 11th forms had an opportunity to compete in the knowledge of English.

Our school life: Doing shopping.

 

Role games help to develop speaking skills. That's why I use the  role games at my lessons. Today my 4th formers have improved their speaking skills on the topic "Doing shopping". Our lesson was a great fun!;)

October 14, 1926 Publishing house «Methuen & Co" in London published the book by Alan A. Milne's "Winnie the Pooh." Today, after 88 years, it is difficult to find a person who has never heard about a pretty funny little bear and his friends.
This little bear can teach all of us a good and a little bit naive wisdom:

Events: Days of Ukraine in the UK/Події: Дні України у Великій Британії.

In October a remarkable event will take place in London Saatchi Gallery. The aim of this event is to improve the image of Ukraine and Ukrainian culture. The exhibition "Anticipation: Ukrainian Art"  will be held during the "Days of Ukraine in the United Kingdom" which are organized in the capital of the United Kingdom with the support of the charity fund Firtash Foundation.

Preparing for the exposure lasted for about six months, it will present nearly 200 works of modern Ukrainian artists.The exposition will represent the works of  25 artists of different generations: Anatoliy Kryvolap, Nicholas Matsenko, Arsen Savadov, Victor Sidorenko, Marina Skugareva, Oleg Tistol, Nazar Bilyk, Alexey Zolotarev, Zhanna Kadyrova, Roman Minin, Stepan Ryabchenko and Alexei Say.

The first month of learning English for my first formers has passed. They have learnt a lot of interesting things. And we decided to make a friendly sun. It has got a smiling face and its rays are children's handprints with their names.

Our school life: Project "I am a teacher"/Наше шкільне життя: Проект "Я - вчитель".

I always try to help my pupils in developing their abilities and creativity. And this Teacher's Day was a great opportunity for one of my best pupils to act as a teacher. I want to thank Elmira Farkhadova ( my 11-th former) for taking part in my project "I am a teacher". This project gives my pupils an opporunity to feel themselves as real teachers. They create their own lessons and try to find interesting ways of teaching.

So my young fashion designers have been working at their project "School uniform".
