Let's write about...

Today we are going to write about the streets we are living in.
And here is the story from Katia Zhulkova (form 7).
My name is Katia and I'll tell you about my picturesque street.
My street is special. It has got a very beautiful name. It's called Odesska str. If you ask me why it's beautiful, I'll tell you it's because this street is the most flowering street in my village Yurchenkove.
My house is situated at the edge of the street. Here it is, my house in bloom.

There are many other blooming houses in my street. And the greatest and the most beloved teachers live in my street.
When you walk along my street, you can see many beautiful houses, wonderful blooming lilac by the road.

There is a lovely birch park near our street. And it is the most beautiful park in our village.
I think the sunset is the best in my street. You can see that it's really very beautiful.

I love my native street very much!"

Let's write about...

We continue present our ideas in the rubric "Let's write about..." And today I want to share with you  my student's essay "My favourite book".

" Recently I've read the story of Harry Potter and I was very impressed by this wonderful book. That's why I decided to write a short story about my acquaintance with this book and my feelings.
As you maybe know this book was written by J.K.Rowling, a famous British writer. The main characters are Harry Potter, Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley.

The plot's set place in our time and in an imagenary world at the same time. The story tells us about a ten-year old boy Harry. His life is hard but on his eleventh birthday everything changes for him at once. A starnge guest brings him a letter from a school for wizards. And harry learns that he is not an ordinary boy but a real wizard (but unprepared yet) andd he is accepted at Hogwarts, the school of magic.

I identified myself with Hermione, because she is so smart and cool. She is very friendly  and always ready to help others.
If you ask me what kind of book it is, I will admit that it's hard to say, because adventures of Harry Potter is a fantasy, a young adult fiction and adventure story at tthe same time. You can find mystery, aventures, love, friendship and phylosophic topics in this book. And the ending of this book is very moving.

I liked this book very much, because it is the most touching and fantastic story I have ever read. It is full of magic and drama.

I thoroughly recommend it to all who haven't read this wonderful book yet."

Wisdom from great people

On October, 28 Bill Gates (William Henry Gates III) celebrates his birthday. He is a well-known founder of  Microsoft Corporation, businessman, humanitarian. He can also be a great example for those people who are looking for success in life. Though Mr. Gates himself says that people shouldn't compare themselves with anyone in this world, because this comparison can only insult them. His great success didn't make Bill Gates selfish but wise. So here are some rules from Mr. Gates:

RULE №1 Life is not fair; get used to it.
RULE №2 The world won't care about your self-esteem. The world will expect you to accomplish something BEFORE you feel good about yourself.
RULE №3  You will NOT make 40 thousand dollars a year right out of high school. You won't be a vice president with a car phone, until you earn both.
RULE №4 If you think your teacher is tough, wait till you get a boss. He doesn't have tenure.
RULE №5 Flipping burgers is not beneath your dignity. Your grandparents had a different word for burger flipping; they called it opportunity.
RULE №6 If you mess up, it's not your parents' fault, so don't whine about your mistakes, learn from them.
RULE №7 Before you were born, your parents weren't as boring as they are now. They got that way from paying your bills, cleaning your clothes and listening to you talk about how cool you are. So before you save the rain forest from the parasites of your parents' generation, try "delousing" the closet in your own room.
RULE №8 Your school may have done away with winners and losers, but life has not. In some schools they have abolished failing grades; they'll give you as many times as you want to get the right answer. This doesn't bear the slightest resemblance to ANYTHING in real life.
RULE №9 Life is not divided into semesters. You don't get summer off and very few employers are interested in helping you find yourself. Do that on your own time.
RULE №10Television is NOT real life. In real life people actually have to leave the coffee shop and go to jobs.
RULE №11 Be nice to nerds. Chances are you'll end up working for one.
PS Thanks for a good piece of advice and Happy birthday Mr. Gates!

New ways of learning for young learners

Let's get acquainted! These are my first graders. They like learning English and they are very eager to learn something new. And I always try to make my lessons more intresting for my little learners. Today we have started learning letters and our first AB meeting was unusual. Let's forget about boring writing! Why not to create letters with the help of plasticine? It's easy and very creative for my pupils. By the way we have learn't not only letters, we also practised pronouncing their sounds and made words with these letters(apples and bananas). We also used wonderful resourses from http://www.dreamenglish.com/missionabcde
It was easy and a great fun! And what I liked most of all was that my young learners remembered new letters very easily. So the first step to knowing English has been taken.

Let's write about...

Two weeks of study at school passed. Our students revised all the information they learnt last year. Now they are eager to learn something new.
I've decided to offer them an opportunity to practice their skills in writing and share their feelings and thoughts on pages of our blog in a new rubric "Let's write about..."
Their first offered topics were "How I spent my summer vacations" and "My first day at school". My students were eager to share their summer experience.
Now let's look what we've got.

"My summer was very funny. Every day I went for walks with my friends, rode on my bike, made new friends from the neighbourhood. Unfortunatelly my summer is over. A new school year has begun. I really miss my summer very much."
                                        Lizy R.

"The first day of school began with a school meeting. At the meeting everyone was congratuleted on the Day of Knowledge". After that the first bell rang. After the end of our meeting we went to our classroom. There was our first lesson, we played an intellectual quest game. The bell rang and we went home."

"This summer I read a variety of interesting books, played a lot of funny games with my friends and had a very good time.
I liked my summer vacations very much"

"I spent my summer very merrily. This summer I went to the river where a lot of fish swam. I also visited my relatives in Slovyansk and had a wonderful time there. I visited any interesting places of interest there. I enjoyed my summer rest very much"
                                             Lizy M.

"At the end of our school year I couldn't wait for my summer holidays. I love summer because it's the most funny timeof the year. In summer you can swim in the river, go to different cities or even countries, can wear light and colourful clothes, go for walks with my friends.
My summer was great! At first I was at my sister's where I swam and lay itn the sun every day. Then my sister, my niece and I went camping to the woods.I also made a lot of interesting and funny videos on my Youtube channel "Miss Ruslana".
Then I came home and helped my mother do the household chores. But I missed my classmates very much. In general, you feel lonely and sad without communication with your classmates.
Now our school year has started and I'm happy to see my classmates again.
I wish you good luck and success in a new academic year. See you soon!"

Thanks to all our authors for sharing their wonderful emotions with us. Great work!We also happy to greet our new blog participent and new student Mary.

Back to school: adaptation after summer holidays.

The beginning of a new school year can be quite stressful for children, despite the whole solemnity of this process. Of course, our schoolchildren will be happy to see both their classmates and teachers, and they really want to boast of their new things and share their experiences accumulated during the summer. But show me at least one person who is eager to wake up early in the morning, if he or she has got used to late sleep. Whatever  you say this regime is complicated, and it is very difficult to perform studying duties after a long rest. So let's find out how to help our children adapt to school best.
According to psychologists, the period of adaptation for sixth graders lasts for 2-3 weeks. A rapid transition to a new regime for children 11-12 years old can cause psychological difficulties, and, consequently, adversely affect their health. Therefore, in the last days of summer it is better to encourage children to go to bed early and wake up earlier in the morning. At the same time it is wrong  to require strict compliance with the regime, but it's much better if you show it on your own example. So you will refresh yourselves, and help  your child. It is necessary to limit somewhat the time of watching TV and playing the computer. Suggest the performance of any household duties , so that your child will not wander in vain. But make sure the child is not overloaded.
Active outdoor activities and meetings with friends in the last days of the summer will contribute to the socialization of the child and help to gain additional strength. After all, children of middle school age should spend 2 hours in the fresh air every day.
During the summer holidays, everything that was learned before was forgotten. Therefore, it would be good if the child read the summer literature recommended, repeat the English words learned before, revise the multiplication table, and write dictations. Such mini-training for the school will also help to adapt to the new school process.
Don't forget about healthy eating habbits,  because vitamins contribute to the good physical and mental development of children. So nutritionists consider foods containing choline and lichen as food for brain. They can be found in milk, eggs, fish and liver. Do not forget about magnesium, which is contained in nuts, sunflower seeds, buckwheat, bananas and baked potatoes.
Don't forget about  positive mood. After all, returning to school is an opportunity to learn something new, share impressions and communicate with friends, as well as win new victories.
Dear parents, finally, there is another piece of advice - care about your children, communicate with them, support them and get interested in their preferences and excitements, so that learning for them will be pleasant.

What to buy for school

Very soon schoolchildren will get back to their classes. But before this very important moment both for parents and children, a mission called "Preparing for school" will take place. If you do not want to get lost in the labyrinth of school bags, school uniforms and pens and pencils, let's try to create together a list of the things you need for school.
It is important to remember that the preferences of your child should be taken into account, but don't forget about the fact that things should be comfortable in use and harmless for your child's health.
So, let's begin!
#1 School bag
Choosing a school bag, pay attention to its width, which should be equal to the shoulder width of  your child. Also, the school bag must fit tight against the back. It's better to buy an orthopedic school bag for children under 15 years old. The straps on the briefcase should be easily adjustable. Check out all the zippers.
#2 Copybooks
Pay attention to the quality of the paper and the clarity of the lines in the copybook. Do not buy the covers with drawings, because they  discourage children from learning. And sometimes, the content of such drawings is not propriet for school. Of course, no one will be able to specify the number of copybooks, because everything depends on the number of subjects that the child will study, the intensity of the recording and the way of child's handwritten.
#3 Diary
Modern manufacturers offer a lot of different options. When choosing a diary, take into account which class your child is attending and what language learns.
#4Covers for notebooks and textbooks.
Keep in mind that the size of the covers for textbooks depends on which class your child is going to be.
Pencil case.
Please note that all the necessary things will be easy to reach.
#5 Pens and pencils and etc
Buy ballpoint pens with blue ink and rubber holder. Note that the ink dries up quickly.
The pencil should be of medium hardness, with the mark HB or B.
Eraser depends on the pencil. If you have purchased a solid pencil, then the eraser should be firm, and for soft and medium hardness - soft.
Pencil sharpener.
Rulers of different lengths.
Devider. Choose it with a thick and short tip, easy and safe to use.
Transporter and squire.
Glue (it's best to choose a pencil for  not to spill it).
Paints and brushes.
Colored pencils.
Colored paper and cardboard.
Album for drawing.
Do not postpone the school shopping on the last day of the vacation, take care of the necessary eqipment in advance. Let your school gethering  be easy and fun, and I wish you to spend your last summer days on pleasant and interesting things.
